To the Citizens of Fairfax,
The 2010 baseball, softball and t-ball seasons have come to a close. It was once again an amazing season. Congratulations to the boys’ Pony League and Little League teams for making it to the championship game of the Iowa Valley League Tournament. The girls’ softball teams continue to improve and have become very competitive in their first three years. And if you haven’t experienced a Saturday morning at the park with the t-ballers, you don’t know what you’re missing!
But this program is about more than just performance on the field.
This year more than 220 kids from Fairfax participated in these programs. As always, these programs were offered free of charge. We all should be proud of that. As far as I know, this is the only program of its size in our area to be able to make that claim. This is possible because of the generous support of our sponsors, donors and volunteers. Thank you doesn’t begin to express our gratitude. You have made it all happen. And just as important to the success of these programs is the outpouring of support by the community as a whole. Whether you have purchased tickets to the pancake breakfast or spaghetti dinner, bought a hotdog and popcorn at the concession stand, signed your kids up to participate in the games, bought a Fairfax t-shirt or sweatshirt or showed up to cheer on our teams, we thank you. We couldn’t do it without you.
We would also like to recognize two of our volunteer coaches who have decided it’s time to let someone else have all of the fun. Pam Zumsande stepped up to coach the girls Pony League team three years ago, and has the program off to a great start. Derek Lewis has been a part of the boys baseball program for the last seven years, coaching the Little League and Pony League teams. Thank you, Pam and Derek, for all of your time and commitment.
We are currently working on a link to the city’s website to keep you updated on all of the happenings involving the Fairfax Youth Sports Association, including additional leagues for 2011. You can get information by going to fairfaxia.com and clicking on the Current Events link.
Thanks again for your support.
