Fairfax Youth Sports Association
Since the 1950’s, summertime has meant baseball in Fairfax. For generations, dads and sons have participated in the great tradition of playing for the town team. This is where some of those players honed their games that took them on to great high school and college careers. The bond between teammates and coaches, and the relationships created, stay with those involved long past their playing days.
In 2008, the FYSA was created to make sure that future generations of kids in Fairfax have the opportunity to experience this summertime tradition.
But we didn’t stop there!
In 2008 we organized the first Fairfax girls’ softball teams since the mid 1980’s. In 2009 we started the Fairfax T-ball league, introducing kids from age 4 to 2nd grade to baseball and softball. In 2010, with the help of over 30 adult coaches and volunteers, more than 230 kids participated in this program. And the fall of 2011 should see the first Fairfax Pee-Wee Soccer League. All for free. That’s right, for free.
The FYSA has two mission statements: 1) Every kid should have the opportunity to play ball, and 2) they shouldn’t have to pay for that opportunity.
The FYSA depends on the support of the community. We are able to provide these opportunities to the kids of Fairfax, free of charge, through various fund raisers, merchandise and concession sales and the contributions of local businesses and residents. Please review the list of sponsors and make sure you thank them by using their business.
And of course, all of the volunteers, coaches and parents that donate countless hours to make the FYSA a success.
If you would like to sign your son or daughter up to play, 4 years old to 8th grade, would like to volunteer your talents or just have any questions, please contact us at fysa@southslope.net .
